The Electric Mud
I guess it's ironic or coincidence my I-Tunes has been randomly selecting tracks today from Muddy Water's Album called Electric Mud. An Album, that at one time was heralded as one of the worst blues albums ever made.
The story goes Marshall Chess, son of Leonard Chess of the famous Chess Records, wanted to put out music that would appeal to the young, white hippie kids and this album was born from that concept. As a straight ahead blues album for this white guy, I wouldn't even consider it a blues album. It was a blues guy dabbling in psychedelic rock. Which is neither good or bad, as I try not to be a purist when it comes to artists and musicians feeling something from another genre and working their art into that other art form. Which could be a whole other discussion.
Now Muddy, went to merge the two quite well on later releases and his music is still borrowed by mainstream artists like Bob Dylan. Especially on Bob's new song Someday Baby, which the mainstream "indie" bloggers are absolutely in love with and fail to mention the massive Muddy Waters influence. If you've listened to any Muddy Waters, you can hear that Dylan was clearly influenced by and even picked a few handfuls of the Mississippi Mud and called it his own. (which is a shame Bob)

I really like this album; sounds like some early Parliament / Funkadelic.
