Wednesday Tea Break

RIP CNR... we got this mp3 from Idolator.. Much anticipated, but leaving myself not impressed. Have I committed an "Indie Rock" cardinal sin? Do I have to give up my glasses? my thrift store clothes? My Math Books? Your thoughts on it?

Chicago Cub Uniforms back to Tradition

DleeBack in March, the 8th actually I wrote about the Cubs "Blue" Home Team Uniforms. You can refresh yourself on that here. I've been holding off on writing this but it seems Lou Pinella has instilled a bit of the old baseball tradition at Wrigley, it seems for Home Games it's White with Blue Pinstripes look and the Away Greys. NO BLUE Jerseys!!! Hooray for Tradition! It seems the marketing department actually lost a battle. I still don't believe the home team should have player's last names on them but I will give up on that in order never to see those Blue Jerseys adore the Home Town Team ever again.
Now if we can get people to stop calling Cub Fans, Cub NATION. Any suggestions? Any other things you would like to see at Wrigley?

Sunday: Something Old and Something New

Donovan77copyThe true beauty of blogs especially music blogs is not only a free taste of an artist but the education and the discovery of a sound, an era or even a whole different culture. One of the reasons I do this blog is to share with you my own discoveries as well as hopefully turn you on to music you might never discover. It's my own journeys thru the internetting that I pop along tracks that make me return to the record shop, make me stop and suck in the era the feeling of what is going thru the artists head. One stop every month for me is the gang over at Breath of Life.
They look at soul/r&b and world music from an intelligent and provoking perspective and if that genre ever intrigues you I highly suggest you pay them weekly or monthly visits. I'm sure when they have house parties, the groove is right there.
One artist they turned me onto is William DeVaughan, read their take on him as they can describe it better than me, but all I can say I'm a sucker for this sound. The track included is the one they  presented back in Feb 2006 when I first discovered the blog.

Our something new isn't really that new but caught Arcade Fire's show last night at The Chicago Theater. And all I can really say is, once every 20 years it seems a group comes along that takes the mantle of "Rock" and moves it another peg in a completely different direction and that's a good thing. A really good thing, it makes me glad to be a lover of music.

Let's play catch up or is that ketchup

Lee_swingingOk here we are once again, attempting to bring us all up to date after being away for 3 whole weeks. What was I thinking. I think it's good to have a break from trying to update this every other day. What have I been doing you might ask? Where has my Saturday with Sammy gone? He will be back. The Wednesday Tea Break, life following The Cubs.. all coming back.

The pic comes from The Cubs/Cards series in St.Louis that I went to the first weekend away. This pic is from Sat's game. It's Derrick Lee swinging thru a pitch, which doesn't make me happy. But was quite impressed with my new digital camera The Canon Digital Rebel XT with a 300mm lens capturing the actual ball before it hits the catcher's mitt. It was good fun being in St.Louis. I even stayed at the same hotel with The Cubs. It was a bit depressing to wake up and found out about Josh Hancock. Kept me from talking to Lou Pinella and Jim Hendry on Sunday.

I had a brother get married the following weekend, so big fun was had by all. In between St. Louis and the wedding. Caught a Cubs/Nationals game in the Dugout Box Seats at Wrigley. Head over to Ken's A Gaper's Blog for his up close and personal photos from those seats.

Caught Peter Bjorn and John's early show at Empty Bottle. Pretty good but I think they need more live experience, it never completely captivated me. Same goes for Amy Winehouse at The Vic Theatre. All young artists with heaps of potential, so we shall see how it all comes together in the coming years.

We need to get this band into our musical world
