New Year's Day : Bonus

LoveandpeaceI just got an email from someone requesting the song I had up on last New Year's Day. She told me it was quite lovely and was hoping it would be a tradition at The Beef Stand. It's quite a reflective number and one of my favorites. So the tradition begins. We can only hope this year finally brings it.

New Year's Day

Picasso_thedreamI spend New Year's being somewhat lazy, it's usually a marathon of jazz thru the speakers  and contemplate the year that has passed and look to the year ahead. A nice dinner and perhaps an old movie. How about you?

That Old Christmas Moon

Mars_ramotowski_close_030717_02 I've lived in major cities most of my adult life, so sky viewing was limited but still quite enjoyable. I remember just a few years ago during the New York City Blackout of 2003, how amazing the sky looked with a darkened skyline, sitting on the roof of my building that night was a magical feeling and perhaps a once in a lifetime feeling.  When I had my cottage in Woodstock, I woke my friend at 4AM to come out on a very cold November evening to watch the Leonid Meteor Shower, she was a bit grumpy at first but once we got outside, we stood in awe as the sky lit up in a literal shower of meteors. Finally as a child, looking into the sky during Christmas Eve was a thrill as well. Wishing to get a glimpse of Santa across the sky, or perhaps finding the Christmas Star to guide the 3 Wisemen. The night sky was always a source of wonderment, imagination and of course quite humbling. I came across a story the other day about how
this Sunday December 23 our Full Moon will look to be relatively close to Mars (which will passed the closest to Earth this  past Tuesday). For information on what you will see, where ever you live and when you will see it Please click here.

Randomness

Random_thoughts_indexThings chug along and times call for some random thoughts.

Unbelievable that The U.S. Constitution continues to be torn to threads. You know, you grow up thinking and being taught what a beautiful piece of work that piece of paper is. The document that guides us and perhaps the world in what could be achieved and the current US Administration walks on it and wipes its dirty feet on it like a doormat, while the mainstream press and Congress and perhaps even us sit idly by. Read the latest atrocity right here. So Much for Checks and Balances and independent branches of government.

On the holiday kick, been visiting these two sites quite a bit for some holiday cheer. Of course one of my favorites Keep The Coffee Coming  and then there is AM, Then FM both chock full of the true meaning of Christmas. My deepest gratitude to them both for the time and effort on educating me with unheard songs and allowing me to remember ones that are my favorites.

The Chicago Cubs sign Japanese Outfielder Kusuke Fukudome to play right field. My only advice to him is wear your sunglasses for all Wrigley Day Games in Right Field. Around 3:30pm  the sun, seeps over behind home plate grandstands  and will hit you right in your eyes. If you drop or miss read a pop up, be ready for a 42,000 person chant of FUCK YOU DOMAY! FUCK YOU DOMAY! and I don't even believe in swearing at the park. Really, some one please let him know.

Since I didn't update yesterday with Saturday with Sammy, here's a little X-Mas ditty for you

Oreos or Friends of Ernie Elf

Cakesters_2 I haven't done a food blog lately and this really shouldn't be the one to restart my talk of food but I was in a Walgreen's today buying a birthday card for my niece and at the counter I came across  2 boxes of Oreo Cakesters for 4 dollars. What most if not all of you don't know, is for the past 10 years I've been a Friend of Ernie's, the whole 12 steps. There are two brands of cookies I can not touch, I seriously have an addiction to Oreo's and Nutter Butters. All through my childhood years, High School and College, I could and would down a whole package of those two type of cookies in one sitting. I will have Oreo Cookie Ice Cream once in awhile but I've literally sworn myself off of them 10 years ago. I'm sure you're saying "Oh come on, you can't swear off cookies forever" No I haven't I'm still a cookie addict but I have now controlled it. My Cookie of choice these days is Nilla Wafers, I still buy these about once every two months but don't finish a whole box in one sitting, thank you.

Anyway, at the Walgreens, I was seriously tempted to buy this new Oreo Product because well I had to know.

Seriously though, I guess my question to you all out there is, Have you bought them? Are they any good? I'm guessing they are a let down, I'm a big believer with keeping a great brand GREAT instead of expanding the Brand Line, I'm sure it increase market share but at the expense of the original brand. And my follow-up question is "How does it mix with a glass of milk?

I promise a much better "Food" entry soon but hey not only did I turn the stoners who stop by on to a new snack, I opened the door to a marketing discussion, Should a successful brand branch out to other flavors or concepts?

Chicago Cubs: Be Alert for Foul Balls!

Alert_2See this sign, it's been hanging at Wrigley Field since I was 2 years old and I can assure you alot of years have gone by since I first saw this sign. If you've ever been to the Friendly Confines, and you sit in the lower seats (aka The Box Seats) you come across this little friendly warning on the way to your seats. It is part of Wrigley tradition like the Scoreboard, the blue and white home team pinstripes, the ivy on the outfield, the heartbreak.  Apparently two "Lifelong" Cub fans didn't see the sign or heed the warning, and went to the local daily paper in town with the sad story of the husband not paying attention to the game, who got beaned in the face with a foul ball demanding the Chicago Cubs extend a net around the infield past each dugout in order that no one "dies".  I really can't believe this guy  doesn't have the balls to take responsibility for  not paying attention to the game.  Here's how you can be safe at the ball park  1) pay attention  2)  stay home and watch it on it tv. This couple obviously never heard the Tom Hanks quote

Please people just take responsibility for your own stupidity, don't ruin Fun at the Old Ballpark for the rest of us because you're an idiot and not paying attention.
